Job Description This position is responsible for the operation of assigned production department in a profitable and efficient manner through proper utilization of assigned manpower, materials, equipment, and space. Responsible for coordinating all activities within his scope of control and for setting priorities necessary to accomplish predetermined goals. Responsible for the entire plant on the weekends. ESSENTIAL FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES Assures all plant safety/accident prevention policies are adhered to as stated in the employee handbook. This includes maintaining a safe work environment and safe work practices, and accident investigation when necessary. Holds employees accountable for non-compliance. Ensures that housekeeping standards are met throughout the facility. Supervises hourly employees performing various production operations. Trains all direct reports to follow all rules, programs and procedures. Coaches employees to ensure compliance. Administers all rules, programs and procedures that pertain to direct reports. Responsible for on-the-job training of employees. Instructs new or reassigned employees in the safe and efficient operation of equipment. Responsible for maintaining labor within an assigned department levels. Reassigns labor on idle equipment to eliminate unfavorable labor variance. Observes production operation within area of control to ascertain compliance with quality, safety, production standards, work rules, and efficient operation of equipment. Takes corrective action to eliminate any deviation. Reports potential production downtime, scrap production, and quality of each machine under the supervisor’s responsibility and summarizes data from shift. The Production Supervisor has the authority to shut down production equipment to prevent production of defective product. Evaluates employees based on performance set forth in the evaluation guidelines and responsible for establishing development action plans as deemed necessary. Partners with the Human Resources to fill all vacancies and interview internal and external candidates. Recommends candidates for hire, promotion, demotion, transfer, or release. Identifies high potential(s) and establishes short term and long term career plan. Supports employee with development by mentoring and training on a continuous basis. Initiates investigation and progressive discipline to address performance (quality, production and safety) and/or policy and procedure violations. Makes recommendation on all corrective notices. Promotes and fosters a positive work environment for overall employee engagement. Fosters teamwork. Responsible for proposing and actively participating in continuous improvement initiatives. Train current and new members of the department to perform job related tasks as needed. Learn new on the job skills as training opportunities become available. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Directly supervises the production shift. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND /OR EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; three to five years experience (SAME AS LEAD) in Production environment. Combined experience may be considered. LANGUAGE: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
